Odd October Covers...

So far multiple October covers have come out, and most of them have failed to impress me. The word that springs to mind first is: 'awkwardness'. Take Tatler magazine for example, which has socialite and style icon Olivia Palermo on its front cover. I found the picture they chose quite comical. Her big brown eyes, staring into the lens with an expression which I can't quite place. Shock? Anger? Or was she just dozing off? Anyhow, I personally believe that the magazine editors of Tatler magazine were probably going for an 'intense look', which they have failed to produce. Then, the British Vogue chose to have Cheryl Cole on their front cover (which could have been a great idea, seeing that Miss Cole is one of the most beautiful women out there). But they have failed to produce a cover worthy picture; Cheryl Cole looks uncomfortable, and the placed flowers in her hand are just confusing. It looks more like a spring cover, but definitely not autumn.

How it is really done...

Now a cover which I do like. This American Vogue cover is pretty much perfect. I might be slightly biased, because I'm a huge Carey Mulligan fan, but the cover has something which the others don't: intensity. I also love the styling; that dress is amazing, and definitely stands out. The only critique I do have is that I'm so bored of seeing celebrities on the front covers; what happened to top models and risky covers?

What do you think of these October covers? Awkward or Intense? Which one is your favourite?

  7. I agree with the UK Vogue comment; her eyes look really glazed over, and the flowers make out that it's a Spring issue. She was diagnosed with Malaria like, a week after the shoot so that may be to blame :)

I've tagged you in a post by the way!

  8. I completely agree. The Tatler cover looks as though Olivia is meant to have a startled look and the outfit makes me think of the 60s. The Vogue UK cover looks like a March cover. However I do like Carey Mulligan's slightly tousled hair not so sure I like the out of focus backdrop.

  9. I like the American Vogue cover with the Chanel Haute Couture dress.. But I hate it at the same time.. Who is the not soo impressive celebrity. They should have choose Abbey Lee or Daria... Oh well, nice dress.. I really like your blog, its soo chic.. I am now following it and looking forward to your updates.

  10. Amen! I want to see more models on covers of magazines. I guess the bottom line is that they don't sell as well, but I'd still love to see a fashion magazine come out that doesn't feature an actress on every cover.

The Palermo cover is just comically horrible really.

  14. Thats so crazy! Me and my dad were having a laughing fit about the tatler cover last night. I'm sorry, but she looks awful! Why does she do that face? The US cover really is perfection, which is unusual, because I usually love the UK covers better... Thanks for you lovely comment, as always! I've just done a new post too, if you wanted to check it out. Panda xo

but the carey mulligan vogue cover, whilst it might not exactly be bold/eyecatching, it is kitch and cute and shows off her quirky style.
