Trend alert: Velvet

Ok, this trend isn't one of my personal favourites, but it's definitely something different and groundbraking. Furthermore, it's seen everywhere, from the catwalk to our highstreet stores! But forget about the chunky, over-the-top eighties designs, and go for glossy colours, pretty burn-out effects and more simplistic pieces. So think: sleek cocktail dresses and glamorous clutches. Read on for some great velvet pieces and catwalk inspiration...

Items from top to bottom: Topshop, ASOS, ASOS, Miss Selfridge

What do you think of the velvet trend? Will you be investing in a velvet piece?

i've got a few, but there is a downside, that it can often make you look a bit gothic...
